Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti – Before Today

Released in 2010 via 4AD, Before Today marks a turning point for Ariel Pink aka Ariel Marcus Rosenberg — previously known for lo‑fi, cassette-based solo recordings, he now presents a fully realised studio album with a backing band.

The sound is cleaner and more polished than his earlier work, but still retains his surreal, art-pop sensibility. Tracks like “Round and Round”, “Can’t Hear My Eyes”, and “Bright Lit Blue Skies” highlight his knack for melodic hooks, weird arrangements, and nostalgic touches.

The album has a balance of strange charm and pop accessibility, cleaner than previous works but still with a slightly deranged take on ‘80s synth textures.
