Based in Sacramento, California, and led by sisters Nancy and Sally Ross, the group was active between 1964 and 1971. Originally known as The Hairem, they were notable for being a self-contained unit that wrote their own songs and played their own instruments.

The album is highly regarded for its "authentic bad attitude" and raw garage-rock sound that predated the punk movement.
